The next time time you’re faced with a decision to make, a fork in the road, consider how a momentarily hard decision can positively influence your life and finally get you moving in a direction worth living once again. So, today, I ask you today to do ONE thing. It’s this mindset that buries us in to the same position that we were 5, 10, 20+ years down the road. It’s this mindset that keeps us looking for a better time to pursuing become licensed engineers, to take the FE Exam. This mindset is what precisely keeps us on the hamster wheel indefinitely. No longer are we disposed to making the best decision for ourselves, we by default are opting for the easy way out because it feels like the only choice we have. Problem is, as life gets more complex, we are opting for the “easy way out” more and more.Īdding one rung after another, until the wheel is complete. Thing is, despite what seems to be a more chaotic life of little to no extra time, we are still being met with endless decision points that are shaping us in the present and our reality in the future.
Post college and in to our professional careers as engineers, we are often navigating life on the brink of chaos.īills, kids, sports – ahem, date nights – they are all ingredients in a blender full of responsibilities. There are a lot more “yeses” to other peoples agenda and a lot more “nos” to our own personal dreams and aspirations. Making decisions that are in our best interest can be a cognitively taxing process, and our ability to stay true to our goals over time declines after long sequences of decisions are being made. It becomes a real thing in your own lives.
Over time as we experience the cumulative weight of critical decisions being made, we grow tired and retreat away from what appears to be the “harder” route. That same decision being made as an adult… you know we are finding the open gate or another way around.Ī rung is added. From day one, our lives have been riddled with decision points we needed to make some call on.Īs kids, we didn’t think twice whether or not we’d climb up and over the fence on our way home –
